Mint chocolate-chip is my all-time favorite. It’s the best of two wonderful flavors, like a Peppermint Patty. When I was a kid we’d go to Velvet Freeze and I’d get that every time. Theirs was especially yummy because they used shaved chocolate instead of big, blocky chips. I always got it on a regular cone, occasionally opting for a sugar cone. (This is before the days of waffle cones, of course).
A close second to mint chocolate-chip is chocolate marshmallow. As far as I know, Pevely is the only purveyor of chocolate marshmallow ice cream. My grandparents always had this flavor on hand when I was growing up, and their house was the only place I ever had it. If you haven’t had Pevely’s chocolate marshmallow, well, it’s not like Rocky Road. It doesn’t contain nuts, for one, and the marshmallow is swirled in throughout — no poofy little cylinders.

Jenn, I’m so with you on the mint-chocolate-chip. I think that’s my favorite. When I was really little, it was licorice. When I was 3 years old, my teenage cousin Mickey took me to B&R’s and I came home with a thick black ring of ice cream around my mouth. So, licorice is pretty nostalgic to me (who knew a sticky, dirty face could evoke such wistful emotion?!)

During high school, my affection turned toward the powerful duo of daqueri ice and Jamoca (NOT Jamoca Almond Fudge, which was my mom’s favorite - hold the nuts, hold the fudge, just the coffee. )

I like nuts, but prefer to enjoy them without accompanying flavors. So, the Rocky Road option you mention - sans rocks - is very interesting! Will have to seek out the chocolate marshmallow ice cream.

Now, of course, there’s also the old standard, choc. choc. chip from Haagen Daz. Comes with the memory of a particular sleepover in high school with a friend, a late-night tv movie, two spoons and a pint of HD’s CCC. Mmmmm!
